The history behind the hat
A city older than the country on its label. In 1701, Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac and about a hundred colonists came down the Detroit River and raised Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit on the north bank — named for the narrow strait, le détroit, that gave the city its name.
Three centuries later that river-town outpost had become the place that put the world on wheels: Henry Ford introduced the Model T here in 1908, the moving assembly line started rolling at Highland Park in 1913, and more than 15 million Model Ts later the nickname “Motor City” was permanent.
